What we do
as a Montesori Mission School
IDEAS & CONCEPTS
Our mixed aged classrooms are centered on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori and her approach that true education is designed to awaken interest and to allow children to pursue learning about issues that already personally interest them. It is also necessary to a system that is based on intrinsic motivation, rather than on extrinsic motivators such as grades.
Our evolution from computer lab to classroom technology is still evolving. In the lower grades, computers are available in a open learning space outside of the classroom. In middle school and high school were are in the process of establishing a 1 to 1 program as students prepare for college.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
TOOLS FOR SUCCESS
Daily reading comprehension challenges, standardize test preparation, critical thinking skill buuilding, S.T.E.A.M. initiative, and High Scholar dual enrollment are all integral tools that Children of the City provides for student success within the Montessori setting. Through teacher guidance, children learn to think and discover on their own. Once they successfully master a material, the dignity of their accomplishment stirs them into a desire for additional learning.
